This Is A Great Starter Project To Develop Your Skills With Just A Few Tools.

If you don't mind a rustic look the pallet wood is an economical way for a beginning woodworker to get raw wood for projects.

In this bench project you can get a longer bench by butting the shorter bench boards together. Just make sure the but joints are in different locations in the glued up piece. Try to get about a one foot lap. I would definitely use more glue than shown in the video when gluing the boards together. If you want no gaps between the boards on the top surface you could use a bead glue that has gap filling properties, such as  PL Premium, along the top edge being glued and the carpenters glue below that.

For added strength for the legs glue the skirt boards on as well.

A nice finishing touch would be to round over all the corners. A small router with a radius bit works great for this, but it can be done by hand with a block plane and sand paper.
