48 & 15/32
Measure twice, cut once
Hmm. Looks like 48 7/16 and a fuzz. Not quite a fuzz, maybe a just a shade over.
48 7/16 strong
48 7/16 heavy..
We’ve always used heavy and light for the measurements.
I look at it as 16th’s are ether + or — So I see 48 and 1/2 —
To try and figure out half of a 16th is stupid and a waste of time.
Definitely 48 15/32 you hacks
Just learn to do it the right way and skip the shortcuts !
Gees, what’s the world coming to ?
48 7/16 strong = 48 15/32
48 1/2 shy = 48 15/32
Use Metric
My framers always yell “a big half” or “a little half” but that’s why they are framers and not finish carpenters

lawyer…. when was the last time the tape measure was calibrated by a “certified” technician? how old is the the measuring device? this is lame even for finish carpenters
48 29/64
48 and a half light
48 1/2 and hit it with the sander
I knew number 2 and a variation of 3 (called it long instead of +) but number 1 is news to me and news I can use!
Aim small. Miss small.
You only need one + for strong
Right on Jesse!!
Takes me back. Afraid most measurements are metric in the UK now. 🙁
Use the 16th’s as a plus or minus. A lot faster while working.
Measure twice! Cut once!
Oh yeah 7 little marks over 448 got ya
48 and 1/2 shy
The ain’t yer grandpa’s glass jar storage. Square buckets with hooks for quick removal and rehanging.
Or u could just say 48 15/32″……
”I learnt something today…….” and “……. tip I have been using fore years”? Here’s a tip. Learn to spell.
how about 48 1/2 shy by a CH.. everyone knows, a CH is a 32nd .. everybody .. if you’re not sure, pull it out of your teeth..
Would be nice if the story actually loaded instead if the advertisment
Get something betre to read measurements with to start
I cut it twice and it still short
48 and 7 1/2 lines
48 and 7-1/2 little marks.
I would call this out as 48 & 3 heavy heavy.
Yep, this would be 48, 3 heavy heavy.
CH may also need to be defined better by using red, blonde or black. I know, now we’re splitting hairs.
48 n 4 light
48 and Seven Sixteenths Full

Good tips but i disagree with second and third trimming of the cuts. that works well on pine and other soft woods but unless you have a very thick rigid blade if you try to make a cut like that on hardwoods the blade will flex away from the wood leaving you with an uneven cut.
