More tricks on how to use a hammer

In my younger days I used those 20 or 24 oz. hammers with metal shafts. They got the job done fast and were pretty indestructible.

I ended up getting what my doctor called “baseball elbow”. It was pretty sore and was supposedly cause by vibrations in the metal shafted hammers being transmitted to your arm and elbow.

The solution was to go to 16 oz. fiberglass and wood handled hammers. For the last 10 years or so my elbow has been pain free.

The other thing that has changed in the carpentry trade is that nowadays all the production nailing is done with pneumatic nail guns, whether that be framing, roofing. siding or finishing.
