Some Boards or Even Table Tops Are Too Wide For Our Home Shop Planers

OK if you are good you could plane a board flat by hand and use winding sticks from start to finish.

But there is a better way – using a router to take off the bulk of the unevenness.

This gets the surface perfectly flat, so that now all you have to do is make it perfectly smooth by planing scraping and sanding.

Setting up your router to do this is easier than you think.

And once you have your router sled built you'll find other projects to use it on such as end grain cutting boards or some odd shaped natural edged slab material.
