Here's A Technique For Getting The Second Side Of The Board Parallel To The First Flat Side

You do this by scribing around the board and then chamfering the face to the scribbed line. Then you put some scribbles with your pencil on the bevels.

Some call these lines on the chamfer – China marks. but what they do is give you a quick visual reference of where and how much wood to remove with your plane.
