Make Your Own Color Producing Logs
The next step is to soak the wood in the bucket of solution for at least an hour so the solution soaks right into the wood.
Make sure you use protective rubber gloves when handling the wet wood or coming into contact with the solutions.
Now take the wood out and put it into the sun to dry making sure no pets or children touch the wet wood.
Once dry bag you wood and take it camping.
Here are the chemicals are colors they make.
Carmine = Lithium Chloride
Red = Strontium Chloride
Orange = Calcium Chloride (a bleaching powder)
Yellow = Sodium Chloride (table salt) or Sodium Carbonate
Yellowish Green = Borax
Green = Copper Sulfate ( from a hardware store ) or Boric Acid (poison)
Blue = Copper Chloride
Violet **Will smoke a ton** = 3 parts Potassium Sulfate 1 part Potassium Nitrate (saltpeter)
Purple = Potassium Chloride
White = Magnesium Sulfate (Epsom salts)
One more safety precaution – Don't cook anything over these fires (except maybe the salt ones)
