This is an axe from the Basque region of Spain. A location that has thousands of years of a woodworking an forestry tradition.

The head is heavy and well shaped.

The handle is not wedged into place but fits into the fully tapered eye in the head.

Also note the back side of the axe is definitely not to be used as a hammer.
