Eavestrough Installation Has Changed Over The Years But The Reasons For Having These Gutters Haven't
Back 50 years age eaves troughs were made of galvanized metal and the various caps and joints were soldered together and then the made up pieces were nailed on to the fascia board.
Now a days The common material for gutters is prefinished aluminum The joints are made water tight by the use of sealants similar to caulking. There are special aluminum clips that hold the gutter and these clips are screwed to the fascia.
The reasons for having eaes trough haven't changed.
- You want to prevent water that is draining off the roof falling on you as you leave and enter the building.
- You want to prevent water erosion on the ground where the water runs off the roof
- you want to get the roof water away from the building to prevent water damage inside the building.

Great health and safety with the 2 ladders
When we added on to our home we didn’t install eavestroughs. I have noticed water erosion on the ground and I hadn’t really considered installing them until now. Is attaching the troughs to the roof pretty easy to do on your own or should I hire someone to do the job?
